apologies for my ego

Grief makes you do funny things...like forget that the world doesn't revolve around what you've experienced and how you feel. A few days ago someone challenged the way I'm choosing to live my life as a result of my loss. My response was to defend my choices--and defensiveness is rarely productive.

I'm a bit slow to process things, but I'm getting better at it. After a few days of consideration, it dawned on me that this person didn't really challenge me--he simply questioned my motives because they created some anxiety or discomfort for HIM! So, tonight I wrote him an apology, asking him to forgive me for focusing on my own experience rather than hearing his. I hope it's not too little, to late.
